  • How To Kill Radtoads

Many mutated monsters now roam the Wasteland of Fallout 76, but Radtoads are one of the few that come in many shapes and sizes as you find them in various locations. Like other creatures transformed by radiation, Radtoads are strong enemies that can be difficult to kill. By understanding their variations and weaknesses, you can eliminate these monsters easily so they don't interrupt your journey.

With the Skyline Valley expansion to Fallout 76, a new map being introduced may cause your character to encounter more kinds of Radtoads. However, plenty of these creatures still exist on your map already, sometimes directly in your path to complete specific missions. Radtoads can also be a good source of basic materials as you farm items needed to help your character recover through food consumables.

Fallout 76: Best Locations To Find Radtoads & How To Kill Them (2)

You can encounter a Radtoad or group of Radtoads in nine different locations around the Wasteland. Similar to Mirelurks in Fallout 76, the variant of Radtoad you encounter sometimes depends on your character's level. The higher level you are, the stronger variations you will discover as you make your way across the post-war landscape in pursuit of quests, farming, or other goals.

Radtoads are a good farming source of XP, but the items they drop are not as valuable as the loot of other creatures. Every Radtoad you find can be tamed as a guardian creature to protect your C.A.M.P. from raiders and other threats. If you want to start hunting Radtoads for any reason, you should investigate these spots:

Radtoad Location

How/Where To Find

The Forest

Anywhere by simply walking around the area.

Toxic Valley

Anywhere by simply walking around the area.

The Giant Teapot

Wait until the "Tea Time" event takes place and spawns many Radtoads.

Beckwith Farm

Have a smaller chance of appearing anywhere in the area.

The Sludge Hole

Always have a chance to spawn anywhere in this location.

Grafton

Explore the outskirts of the area to find a few Radtoad groups.

Landview Lighthouse

Wait until "The Path of Enlightenment" event takes place and spawns many Radtoads.

Helvetia

Radtoads always show up as the first wave of enemies during the "Fasnacht Day" seasonal public event.

Appalachia

Search for one of the six locations hosting the "Primal Cuts" seasonal public event in the Nuclear Winter expansion to encounter a rare Prime Radtoad.

How To Kill Radtoads

Use Different Strategies For Unique Variants

Radtoads have different strengths and weaknesses depending on their type, which forces your character to take different approaches when trying to kill them. For example, a Deadly Radtoad has resistance to fire and cryo damage, giving them better defenses against some of the best weapons in Fallout 76. You have to create unique plans for each Radtoad variant if you want to farm them for resources.

Every Radtoad uses the same attacks against your character - a simple unarmed bite, deadly radioactive spit that can hit you from afar, and an egg mine for a small AoE explosion to damage you and your allies. As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator JiMacSteelGaming, scoring a critical hit against a Radtoad is the easiest way to avoid getting hit by any of these attacks.

Here are all the types of Radtoads in Fallout 76 and some of their abilities to watch out for, along with some strategies for killing each kind of creature:

Radtoad Type

Unique Abilities

How To Kill

Radtoad

N/A

Use the V.A.T.S. system to aim carefully for the Radtoad's torso, then build up the critical hit meter with your weapon to deal a lethal strike and end the creature's life.

Parasitic Radotad

This Radotad can inflict illnesses through its attacks.

Try to attack this Radtoad from afar to avoid getting hit by its disease-ridden moves, especially its egg mines.

Ablino Radtoad

These Radtoads only have more health than regular Radtoads.

Implement the same strategy from the regular Radtoad and repeat it more than once to take this animal down.

Glowing Radtoad

Radioactive Radtoad with more health and slight resistance to energy, fire, and cryo damage.

Avoid using weapons with properties that this Radtoad resists. Also avoid getting close to this creature to avoid getting radiation sickness.

Hideous Radtoad

Similar to the Albino Radtoad, but with much greater health and significant regular damage resistance. This Radtoad also has improved energy, fire, and cryo resistance.

Find weapons that can pierce armor or deal radiation damage. Ironically, this Radtoad does not have any resistance to irradiated attacks from different tools.

Fetid Radtoad

Same as the Hideous Radtoad, only with more health.

Use the same strategy for this creature as you did against the Hideous Radtoad, only more times to accommodate for its larger health pool.

Some Radtoads spawn depending on the conditions of the location they are found within. Many Radtoads, no matter what type, scale with your level and become stronger proportional to your character's strength.

Unique Abilities

How To Kill

Vile Radtoad

Same as the Fetid Radtoad, only with more health.

Use the same strategy for this creature as you did against the Fetid Radtoad, only more times to accommodate for its larger health pool.

Poisonous Radtoad

Same as the Vile Radtoad, only with more health and the same poisoning abilities as the Parasitic Radtoad.

Stay away from this Radtoad and use the same strategy for this creature as you did against the Vile Radtoad, only more times to account for its larger health pool.

Deadly Radtoad

The strongest form of Radtoad, with more health than the Poisonous Radtoad and even greater physical, fire, cryo, and energy damage resistance.

Only use a weapon that deals radiation damage to this Radtoad through AoE attacks. Stay away from this enemy and pierce through their natural armor to eventually take it down.

Scorched Radtoad

Radtoad infected with the Scorched Plague, creating a slightly stronger variant of a normal Radtoad with only slight fire, cryo, and energy resistance alongside a tiny amount of armor.

Deal with this Radtoad the same way you would a normal Radtoad, but be sure not to get close due to its plague.

Prime Radtoad

(Found only during Primal Cuts seasonal event) This Radtoad is practically the same as an Glowing Radtoad without any radioactive properties.

Use the same strategy for this creature as you did against the Glowing Radtoad, only this time you can approach this Radtoad type for melee attacks.

There are no hidden items to find in Fallout 76 from the defeated corpses of any Radtoads you encounter. Most Radtoads only drop Radtoad Eggs, Radtoad Legs, and Junk when defeated, but Glowing Radtoads also have Glowing Blood, Glowing Waste, and Nuclear Waste on occasion for you to collect. The Prime Radtoad is the only creature that drops a unique item, a piece of Prime Meat for your character to cook and eat.

In the Meat-Cook Event, players will have to find and use Prime Meat to get a character buff and some legendary loot and currency in Fallout 76.

Although the rewards do not seem great, keep in mind that more powerful Radtoads defeated will give you a larger amount of XP needed to level up. Farming easy-to-defeat Radtoads can be a consistent way to grow stronger as you find and kill these mutated animals in the wilds of Fallout 76's expansive Wasteland.
