  • TANKLESS WATER HEATER HAVING INTEGRATED SCALE CONTROL MODULE

    Publication number: 20220034522

Abstract: A tankless water heater includes a scale control module (SCM). The SCM is mounted inside or outside of a cabinet which encloses a heat exchanger and source of heat of the water heater. The SCM may include a connector and a cartridge removably attaching to the connector or may only include a cartridge permanently affixed to the tankless water heater. The tankless water heater includes a continuous water pathway inside the cabinet to supply water to all components of the tankless water heater, including the SCM. The tankless water heater receives supply water at its inlet, treats the supply water in the SCM to generate treated water having reduced scale-forming characteristics compared to the supply water, and heats the treated water in the heat exchanger to generate heated treated water.

  • TANKLESS WATER HEATER HOT WATER RETURN SYSTEM

    Publication number: 20080265046

Abstract: A tankless return hot water return system to facilitate whole-house or whole-building hot water return recirculation used in conjunction with tankless water heaters. The system is designed to compensate for tankless head losses and to protect the tankless heat exchanger. The system has a hot water return by-pass for heat exchanger protection. The invention utilizes the tankless water heater as the heating source for the hot water return and eliminates the need and use of tank-type water heaters for tankless hot water return recirculation. The system is self-contained with built-in temperature sensing and does not require any auxiliary controls, sensors, switches, timing mechanisms or remote activation. The system is energy efficient and water conservative.

  • Tankless water heater with a high-accuracy response-curve flowmeter

    Patent number: 11384958

Abstract: A tankless water heater with an impeller flowmeter having multiple K factors significantly improving the accuracy of flowmeter readings, particularly at low water flow rates, such as under 1 gallon per minute. Rather than use a single K factor impeller flowmeter in a tankless water heater that is particularly inaccurate at low flow rates, this disclosure provides an impeller flowmeter with multiple K factors to obtain precise flow rate readings to precisely control heating of the water at low flow rates. The flowmeter has an onboard memory with multiple K factors stored for a controller to access and read. These multiple K factors are established for flowrates across the entire dynamic range of the flowmeter at the time it is manufactured. Just enough K factors are determined to provide good curve fitting. The flowmeter onboard memory is programmed with the multiple K factors.
